James life advice week!!!

A total 360

James started this course with a rant on how technology is bad, and ended this course with a WARNING to be careful to not let technology control your life. I'll say that again.

Do not let technology control your life.

From every blog leading up until now, the final class-related blog post, we can see the huge benefits tech reaps. The opportunities available in music when you chuck tech into the mix, do way more than double - triple - or even quadruple! Technology in music provides a whole new world of opportunities that grow and develop musicians ability and overall journey.

Personally

I feel I have learnt the MOST about music this semester than any other semester at the con so far. Why? Classes or online for heckin' sake!!! BECAUSE: technology has opened up a WHOLE NEW WORLD for me! There are so many avenues in music I hadn't explored, so many passions I hadn't tapped in to. I've steered away from the classical world of music behind my clarinet, and steered towards a thousand other worlds of music behind multiple instruments and keyboards (the laptop kind).

So, is technology good then?

In my very first tech blog, I talked about how I hated technology and was really not keen for this subject at all. Then again in my third blog post, I had a full-on rant as to why technology and social media SUCK.

My perspective has definitely changed since then (but I mean, it kinda had to... with uni online happening and all). Technology is good, great in fact - until; you let technology control you. What was that quote I mentioned before?

Do not let technology control your life.

How do we maintain control over technology?

Technologies JOB is to take people out of their world, and put it in theirs. Tech is literally doing everything they can to take your time. They are trying to distract you and take your attention, so that their business can ultimately boom and they can get the big dolla bills #checkcheck.

Check out some facts James spit-balled:

  • The average computer user checks sites 40 times a day

  • The average computer user changes tasks once every two minutes.

  • Having email on in the background increases alert rate, making you feel stressed and causes time-wasting interruptions.

Basically, MULTITASKING IS A MYTH!!!! If you haven't worked that out already?

So step one is:

STOP MULTITASKING.

Here are some other helpful resources from James to help you TAKE CONTROL OVER YOUR LIFE!

So, remember:

Tech is a great medium to increase knowledge and explore new avenues. Technology can also be a scam because sick-minded indviduals are controlling tech to control you. So, be careful and be MINDFUL so that you don't get caught in their trap.
